REHABILITATION
WHAT IS WELL REHABILITATION?
Well Rehabilitation is defined as restoring a well
to its most efficient condition by various
treatments or reconstruction methods
(Groundwater and Wells). This course discusses
the causes of deteriorating well performance and
methods, both traditional and of more recent
introduction, of addressing this area.
Why rehabilitate? Rehabilitating an old well often
yields a lower dollar per gallon cost than a new
well, even if the old well undergoes rehabilitation
several times.
Some rehabilitation methods work better than
others for specific situations. Some even appear
to work wonders. However, no method works
wonders under all situations and most methods
help, even if only a little. Ideally, we try to pick the
appropriate method for a specific problem to
achieve the greatest increase in yield. Often,
however, well rehabilitation consists of a trial and
error approach, or rather a trial and try something
else approach. In many cases, a combination of
methods provides the best rehabilitation.
